How to Make Mindfulness a Habit
It’s important to make mindfulness a part of our daily lives but trying to remember to be mindful can be difficult. It’s easy to get caught up in work, school, and other daily distractions. That is why making mindfulness into a habit is crucial. Once something becomes a habit it removes the need to actively try to remember to do it.
One easy tip is to associate mindfulness with something you do everyday. A great example is to be mindful every time you walk through a door or doorway. The next time you walk through a door pretend a string is pulling you up from the very top of your head. Straighten your spine and hold yourself tall. The act of standing tall can actually improve our mood. Notice the feeling you have within this moment of stretching. Do you feel more calm? Perhaps you feel a bit more confident and alert.
The best part of this tip is that we walk through doors multiple times in a day. It will take some effort at first to remember to do it but over time you will associate walking through doors with this mindfulness technique and it will start to become a habit!
